The website meetup.com is one of the places you should look.
Meetup.com is like a notice-board for things that are going on around the city. It consists of "meet ups" for things like London culture seekers, Young Professionals in London, Monster London pub crawls, and The London Indie Music group. These groups are a great way to explore the city, meet new like-minded people, and save a pound or two.
